Demolition Disposal Fees On The Rise
Ken Hinson, Acting City Administrator for the City of Lawrenceburg, reported to city leaders Thursday evening an increase in the fees charged for the disposal of demolition wastes.
In February of last year commissioners approved a fee schedule for the disposal of demolition materials in the city’s demolition landfill on Wildcat Ridge. The final work has now been completed to close that facility. Final inspection is expected on Monday.
Once the closure has gained final approval, leaders will be able to move ahead with the opening of the city’s new landfill, situated adjacent to the former one.
As Acting City Administrator, Hinson has the authority to increase the fees charged by as much as 20%, without a vote of the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Commissioners. Hinson explained Thursday that he is putting that increase into effect.
Hinson told commissioners that the current fee scheduled no longer covers the expense of disposing of the demolition waste. With the landfill closed, the city must pay haulers to haul the waste to Pulaski. They must then pay Pulaski’s disposal fees in order to dump there.
The increased fee scheduled will take effect immediately.
